The environment

Heavier plant, longer service life

Manufacturing and processing sites tend to run larger plant that has been in service a long time and extended along the way. Switchboards have been added to, drives have been replaced with newer models, and the drawings often no longer match what is actually installed.

That changes what fault finding involves. Less of the answer is on a screen, and more of it comes from working methodically through supply, protection, wiring, field devices and controls on plant that nobody has documented in years.

What we work on

Plant and equipment

Production machinery

Electrical fault finding, maintenance and modification on the machinery and process equipment itself.

Motors and motor circuits

Fault finding, testing, insulation resistance testing and reporting, starters, overloads, reconnection and replacement.

Variable speed drives

Fault finding, interpreting fault history, parameter configuration, replacement and commissioning.

Switchboards and MCCs

Inspection, fault finding, repairs, modifications, additional circuits and upgrades to distribution boards and motor control centres.

PLC and control systems

Fault finding on PLC controlled plant, control circuit modifications, and programming on Rockwell platforms.

Power distribution

Sub-mains, distribution, supplies to new equipment and additional capacity for expanding plant.

How the work arrives

Breakdowns, shutdowns and projects

Manufacturing sites usually bring us in one of three ways.

  • A breakdown, where plant has stopped and the fault is not obvious
  • A shutdown, where a year of deferred electrical work has to fit into a fixed window
  • A project, where new machinery is going in or a line is being modified

Preventative electrical maintenance sits underneath all three. Most of what ends up on a shutdown list was found during a planned visit, and most breakdowns on well-maintained plant were visible as a developing fault first.

Work is documented as it is completed: certificates of testing and compliance where the work requires one, test result sheets, and job reports with photos.
