Case study

Extra low voltage transformer stacks for mill screen heaters

Brick manufacturingPGH Bricks and Pavers, Oxley2025

The situation

PGH Bricks and Pavers runs an annual four-week shutdown at their Oxley plant. The extra low voltage transformers supplying the mill screen heaters were scheduled for upgrade during that window.

The scope

Build two new extra low voltage transformer stacks, one for each set of mill screens. Disconnect the existing transformers, re-route the supplies to the new stacks, then commission and return the screens to service inside the shutdown window.

Work like this only happens during a shutdown. The screens are central to the process and the supplies cannot be re-routed while the mill is running, so the upgrade has to be planned against a window already carrying the rest of the site's annual maintenance.

The outcome

Both transformer stacks were built and installed, the existing transformers disconnected and the supplies re-routed, and the screens commissioned and back online within the shutdown period.
